102/365 – Ya Man
Tuesday, April 20th, 2010Finally got to try Ackee Tree on Spadina with Koda when he visited from Waterloo this weekend. Those who know me know that I love Caribbean cuisine. Of course I had to try their jerk chicken. It was perfectly cooked and definitely was up to par with The Reef in Vancouver. I don’t eat chicken skin often, but one exception I make is jerk chicken.

Thursday, April 15th, 2010094/365 – …and the Third Little Brewer
Thursday, April 15th, 2010Went to eat at The 3 Brewers at Dundas Square with Rachel and Farran last weekend. This restaurant is an import from France and was a full micro-brewery concept. We each got the ale sampler, pictured above, which included a dark, a wheat, a blonde and a red ale. Honestly, I really only enjoyed the dark one, but that’s probably because I’m not the most avid beer drinker. The food was awesome. Always love good pub grub.
093/365 – For Sake’s Sake
Thursday, April 15th, 2010089/365 – Ingenious
Sunday, April 11th, 2010After our last regular season volleyball game, most of the team went to the Korean BBQ restaurant on Bloor that Rachel used to work at. In the middle of the meal, the exhaust fan pipe thing lost all tension and just collapsed. The owner came out with string and scissors and tied it back up (with the help of some of us). Look carefully at the photo above and you’ll see how we continued to eat!
078/365 – Swish
Monday, March 22nd, 2010Got to try a new restaurant last week with Farran and Rachel. It’s callled “Swish by Han”. I think the best description is a Korean style tapas house. The food was awesome. You’ll often hear me say that I find Korean food uninspiring and always the same. Well this definitely changed my attitude. Apparently the restaurant is opened by a pair of brother’s with the last name Han. Highlights included the in-house cucumber infused soju, “kimchi”ed pears with stilton cheese and pork belly ssam. Check out the rest of our meal
064/365 – Day of Alice
Monday, March 8th, 2010Farran, Rachel and I went to go watch Alice in Wonderland, but before that, we went to eat at Alice Fazooli’s. I’ve never been to one and I’ve got to say, I was a little impressed with the menu. For a “big-box restaurant”, it had a lot of variety and the dishes seemed well thought-out. We shared an antipasto trio and baked goat cheese appetizers. For entree, I (unknowingly) ordered more goat cheese. But the panini pictured above was indeed yummy. Asparagus, portobello and goat cheese are a deadly combination. We shared mango sorbetto and strawberry and cream tartufo for dessert. A very satisfying meal.
Alice in Wonderland was a great movie. It totally reached all my expectations, in an unexpected way. I was very glad I read the two books shortly before the movie came out. Tim Burton took so many little details from the book and twisted them into the movie in his own way. It was very entertaining.
055/365 – Hero Certified
Wednesday, February 24th, 2010I live literally a 3 minute walk from a Hero Certified Burgers shop. I’ve heard much about these burgers, but never had a chance to try them. I wasn’t disappointed! Of course, I had to try just the plain Hero burger, but there were many items to customize it! I chose Hero certified sauce, tomato, pickles, banana peppers and red onions. Not my usual pick, but definitely tasty! The fries were nothing too special, but tasty without being too sodium-rich. I’ll definitely be going back soon to try different combinations of free toppings!
