瑞士雞翼 – A Canto Restaurant classic. No…Swiss Chicken Wings are not actually related to Switzerland. I tried making them at home with the wings I got from the whole chickens the week before. Surprisingly, the look and taste of it was pretty accurate. I’m quite happy with the result.

This unassuming Spanish Paella was ordered at Pickle Barrel. Man it was jam packed with ingrdients. Sausage, chicken, mussels and shrimp were all in there.

One day I found 2 whole chickens at Longo’s for $11. Eleven Dollars! So I brought that home and cut it all up. Of course I used the carcass to make some chicken stock. So my fridge and freezer was full of chicken and I decided I wanted roast chicken. I didn’t have a whole chicken anymore so I just took all the legs and thighs, put them over a bed of potatoes, mushrooms and carrots, and then seasoned all around.

One night, I planned to cook some different things, but I ended up with way too much food for my roommate and me. Made a zucchini, kale, avacado and cashew salad, to accompany blackened chicken on simple couscous.

With all the gourmet burgers I’ve had the gastronomic privilege to sample these days, I decided to try my hand at making my own burgers. Since I have a Kitchenaid stand mixer now, this was fortunately a simple task to undertake. I took ground chicken and added some finely diced mushrooms and onions, tossed in a couple of egg yolks and a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce nad mixed it all together before pan-frying them. Picked up a few freshly baked buns at the corner bakery and also sauteed onions with yellow peppers. Threw on a few pieces of romaine lettuce and drizzled on ketchup. Voila! Now I know the presentation is a bit lacking (my cooking never was plated very well…) but the tastes were well layered. I’m definitely going to try this again with other variations.

Went with Bev and Zoe to Milestones for dinner. Well…really they only had dessert/appetizer. On the table : Portobello Mushroom Chicken with Capellini, Apple Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream, some Cheesecake, and Pita with Roasted Goat Cheese, Garlic and assorted salsas. Yummy!

I went with Karen to Chinatown for Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner. It was awesome going to a Chinese seafood restaurant for the typical festive dinner. We had chicken, roast duck, dou miu, lobster, and steamed fish. Yay!

I apologize for posting a photo of food I cooked twice in a row, but I really wanna document meals I think are worth documenting. Tonight’s dinner was Baked Chicken Drumsticks, accompanied by a simple Romaine, Cremini and Bacon salad with a Homemade Balsamic Vinaigrette.

You all know I love food! Living in downtown Toronto, I’m obviously close to an array of cuisines. Went out tonight with a few friends to a Korean BBQ restaurant on Bloor St. and it reminded me of how much I missed it. I can’t really remember the last time I’ve had it but it was definitely enjoyable.
