With all the gourmet burgers I’ve had the gastronomic privilege to sample these days, I decided to try my hand at making my own burgers. Since I have a Kitchenaid stand mixer now, this was fortunately a simple task to undertake. I took ground chicken and added some finely diced mushrooms and onions, tossed in a couple of egg yolks and a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce nad mixed it all together before pan-frying them. Picked up a few freshly baked buns at the corner bakery and also sauteed onions with yellow peppers. Threw on a few pieces of romaine lettuce and drizzled on ketchup. Voila! Now I know the presentation is a bit lacking (my cooking never was plated very well…) but the tastes were well layered. I’m definitely going to try this again with other variations.

I live literally a 3 minute walk from a Hero Certified Burgers shop. I’ve heard much about these burgers, but never had a chance to try them. I wasn’t disappointed! Of course, I had to try just the plain Hero burger, but there were many items to customize it! I chose Hero certified sauce, tomato, pickles, banana peppers and red onions. Not my usual pick, but definitely tasty! The fries were nothing too special, but tasty without being too sodium-rich. I’ll definitely be going back soon to try different combinations of free toppings!

Went with Bev and Zoe to Milestones for dinner. Well…really they only had dessert/appetizer. On the table : Portobello Mushroom Chicken with Capellini, Apple Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream, some Cheesecake, and Pita with Roasted Goat Cheese, Garlic and assorted salsas. Yummy!

CTV had an Olympics Celebration in Nathan Philips Square in downtown Toronto last weekend. Barenaked Ladies were there! Caught favourites such as ‘One Week’, ‘Pinch Me’ and ‘Too Little Too Late’. It was my first time seeing them live, and it was awesome. They’re a fun bunch of guys and improv a lot into their songs and what they say on stage. If anyone was there that day, “Out of Tong Sune!!!” I loved their songs growing up!
Fun Fact: They formed in 1988 (my birth year!) in Scarborough, ON

So for all of you who are from or are currently in Vancouver, you’ve probably been to one of the many Cafe Crepes around town. I must admit, they are definitely not the best crepes available but there’s just something about Cafe Crepe that makes you want to go there. After a day of walking around downtown, I ordered a dark chocolate hazelnut crepe with a scoop of coffee ice cream. It really hit the spot, but it seemed a bit skimpy on the chocolate filling. Oh well…

This past Friday, got the chance to check out Yen’s high school friends’ band, One Fell Swoop, at the El Mocambo Tavern at College/Spadina. Their music was pretty awesome, pop/rock-ish. The style was what I usually enjoy. And the four-person band had a harmonica AND bongo drums. Need I say more? Check out One Fell Swoop on Facebook!

Finally found some quality sushi and sashimi in Toronto! Went to To-ne Sushi on Queen St. The presentation was amazing and the taste was fresh.

I’m getting to that point of the term where I’m again realizing I need more sleep. Up until this week, I’ve had a pretty good sleeping schedule. But this week has been brutal! I’ve just been going out too late at night. Gotta get my rhythm back…
