019/365 – Hello World

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Before I started this Project365, I read around on the internet on tips for completing the project. One particular piece of advice was to make an effort to photograph myself at least once a month. That way, after a year, I’ll be able to look at how my photography, as well as myself, has changed.

018/365 – Orange

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

So one of the items my organic produce box this week was turnips. I’ve never cooked with a turnip before. Looking at what was in the fridge, I just whipped together this slaw of potatoes, butternut squash and turnip. I added a bit of honey and cinnamon and it actually turned into something pretty tasty. I can see this being a winter comfort dish I’ll make again soon…

017/365 – Foggy Morning

Monday, January 18th, 2010

On Sunday morning, I was out with a friend, just walking along Queen St. I like how the fog was partially covering the top of the CN tower…as if hinting at the fact that the Burj Khalifa had surpassed it as the World’s Tallest Freestanding Structure.

016/365 – Guu is Guud!

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

So the craze of Japanese izakaya dining has finally made it’s way over to this side of the country. ‘Guu’, as many of you know, is an izakaya restaurant brand in Vancouver that, depending on who you ask, sets the bar for izakaya dining in the city. Earlier in my time in Ontario, I was surprised most, if not all, Torontonians had never heard of this type of dining. Now that Guu is in Toronto, you all know there was no way I would not go to try it. I heard from a friend that one of the chefs came from Vancouver to help start up this restaurant in Toronto. As a result, I found the dishes were at the same high level of quality as they are found in Guu in Vancouver. They seem to have imported the most popular dishes from the four Vancouver Guus (as well as special cocktails) and put them all under one roof in Toronto. I’m glad I could bring a bunch of my Toronto friends to try this type of cuisine without having to fly them to Vancouver.

015/365 – Downtown Life

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

So it’s been two full weeks of living in downtown Toronto for me. I’m half-glad, half-embarassed to say, Toronto is growing on me. It’s probably due to the fact that I love the downtown of almost any city. I just love how I can get off work, swing by Chinatown for some groceries and go home all before 5:30pm. Since I live and work along it, Dundas St. already feels “home” to me. Can’t wait to explore more of downtown!

014/365 – Emptiness

It’s not everyday I can see  a completely empty TTC train car…

013/365 – Out of Commission

Friday, January 15th, 2010

So since I’ve come to Toronto, I’ve been going up to Markham on Thursdays to play volleyball with a few of my friends. It’s a sort of warm up for our league that starts next week. Last night was really fun. We had some pretty crazy and interesting rallies going on. Unfortunately, my friend Mark (pictured above), went up for a block and somehow, someone from the other side of the net ran into him and sacked him.  Needless to say, he was out of commission for a while. We continued the game shortly after. Sorry Mark, can’t have 12+ people waiting on you! =D

012/365 – Impromptu Vegetarian

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Came home and literally just opened the fridge and took out random items to prepare this dish. Made a potato, spinach and onion frittata with harvarti cheese on top. When I think back on it…I realize I always make my frittatas with some sort of meat in them…so this was a nice change. Gotta love my new cast iron skillet too, it’s so versatile!

011/365 – Saved by the Pen

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

I’d say, on a weekly basis, I get food stains on my clothes. Today was no different. “Tide to Go Pen: ATTACK THE SOY SAUCE ON MY SHIRT!”

010/365 – Protein and Greens

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

I apologize for posting a photo of food I cooked twice in a row, but I really wanna document meals I think are worth documenting. Tonight’s dinner was Baked Chicken Drumsticks, accompanied by a simple Romaine, Cremini and Bacon salad with a Homemade Balsamic Vinaigrette.
